TIRANA - Albania is experiencing an unprecedented surge in tourism, with more than 7.5 million tourists last year and more than 10 million expected next year. This rapid growth is putting considerable pressure on the country's natural environment.

During their fieldwork, the team of journalists travelled from the interior to the coast, visiting Tirana, Librazhd, Pogradec and Lin, and then Himara and Vlora, to understand whether these figures are real and how much propaganda has influenced the tourism boom. They analysed the effects of overtourism and the visible consequences, particularly in terms of protecting the ecosystem, but also the impact on the lives of the Albanian people.
