Naš čas, d.o.o.

VELENJE - Primary target audience: Local and regional communities in the Šaleška and Koroška regions, including ethnic minorities, low-income families, and foreign residents facing integration challenges. The audience is diverse in terms of age and gender, with a strong focus on community-oriented content.

Empowerment Through Equity addresses social justice and inequality by amplifying marginalised voices and fostering community dialogue in the Šaleška and Koroška regions. The project will produce 36 weekly radio programmes and 72 short, bi-weekly segments highlighting stories of inequality, resilience, and inclusion, featuring contributions from both experts and individuals with lived experience.

To reach a broad and diverse audience, 2,000 flyers and 500 booklets summarising key messages will be distributed, ensuring access for those with limited digital connectivity. Outreach will also be supported through social media platforms and a dedicated section on Radio Velenje’s website, which will include interactive content and discussion forums.

By combining traditional radio with digital media, the project offers a dynamic and innovative approach to public-interest journalism. It aims to strengthen media plurality in regions often considered “news deserts”, while promoting media literacy and critical thinking. The initiative empowers individuals with the knowledge and tools to advocate for equity, thereby fostering a more inclusive and just society.

Naš čas, d.o.o., operating as Radio Velenje, is a non-commercial radio station based in Velenje, Slovenia. With over 50 years of tradition, it serves around 20,000 listeners across the Šaleška and Koroška regions.

The station’s mission is to provide independent, high-quality journalism that informs, educates, and connects communities. It focuses on local news, cultural events, and educational content, and actively collaborates with local organisations to support regional development and dialogue. Broadcasting primarily in Slovenian, Radio Velenje is widely recognised as a trusted source of information and community engagement.

Goals (Expected) of the Project

The project aims to strengthen media plurality and address systemic inequalities in regions with limited diverse media coverage. Its specific objectives are:

  • To amplify underrepresented voices, including those of ethnic minorities, low-income families, and foreign residents;
  • To produce 36 weekly radio programmes and 72 bi-weekly, fact-based segments on social justice and inequality;
  • To distribute 2,000 flyers and 500 booklets offering practical information on equity and advocacy;
  • To build an active online community through social media campaigns and a dedicated interactive section on the Radio Velenje website.

By embedding diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout its content and organisational processes, the project ensures that the perspectives of marginalised groups are meaningfully represented in public discourse. The initiative contributes to the strengthening of democracy and media pluralism by addressing local information gaps, promoting dialogue, and encouraging active civic engagement. Its long-term impact lies in the creation of a more informed, inclusive, and cohesive society.
