Mohammad Bassiki, Syria, is an investigative journalist with more than 15 years of experience in Syrian affairs and the Middle East.

He is the founder and executive director of Syrian Investigative Reporting for Accountability Journalism (SIRAJ), which aims to spread the culture of investigation in newsrooms and to provide training in the field.

His work has centered on public spending, financial investigations, budgets and corporations. Bassiki produces and publishes collaborative and participatory investigations about Syria to enhance transparency, create accountability and strengthen laws in times of uncertainty.

Bassiki has collaborated with OOCRP (Organized Crime and Reporting Project), Lighthouse Reports, The Guardian, El Pais, Der Spiegel and Finance Uncovered in the UK. He has been nominated for international awards including the Shining light by GIJN 2025, the True Story Award 2024, Daphne Caruana Galizia journalism prize 2022 and the International Center for Investigative Journalists award.
