GDANSK - The education project aims to familiarise the inhabitants of Pomerania with the issues of energy transformation, which is a technical, economic and social challenge. The construction of the nuclear power plant is very controversial among the inhabitants of Pomerania.

The target group are the inhabitants of Choczewo and the neighbouring municipalities where the nuclear power plant will be built. The commune is inhabited by 4,998 inhabitants: 49.7% are women, 50.3% are men. More than half of them are of working age, 20% are of pre-working age, and 21% are seniors.

As part of the project, we will present a polyphony in the public debate, providing space for the opinions of various social groups: residents, experts, local government officials, environmental organisations and investors. We will also take into account the voice of marginalised groups, such as seniors, youth, women, and the unemployed. We will highlight the impact of investments on economic equity, looking at how new jobs and the development of energy infrastructure can improve living conditions in the region.
We will provide knowledge about the energy transition, its impact on the environment, economy and the labour market.
The project will support the building of a civil society by encouraging residents to participate in consultations, debates and on the online platform.

We will publish articles, posts, podcasts, videos, organise debates and meetings with residents, and create a web interface for local news.

Goals (expected) of the project

The goals of our project should be considered in several areas. The first concerns the elimination of the information desert by building an innovative information platform for residents and improving local democracy. Our goal is to involve citizens in the process of creating local news, e.g. by reporting on topics important to the community, participating in discussions with journalists in a closed group for readers, as well as by voting on topics to be covered by local journalists. This will allow us to build a strong community around the local product, and in the future it will certainly facilitate the financing of local news in the membership model.

Secondly, we want to create a sustainable model for the functioning of local media in small communities at risk of information exclusion and we intend to continue this after the end of the project, as well as extend it to other information deserts in our region. We will introduce several improvements to the portal, such m.in. easier commenting, live coverage.

We will strengthen the editorial office through the purchase of computer equipment and fundraising training, which will help us develop financial independence.
