Europe believed that Daesh was no longer a problem. Defeated on the ground in Syria and Iraq, the self-proclaimed caliphate appeared unable to organise attacks on other continents. However, Paris, Nice and Vienna have since been hit by attacks which, according to the initial findings of the investigations, were carried out by lone wolves acting in a network capable of guiding and, above all, financing them.
